Traveling in downtown Atlanta near the Government Center will get tighter than usual during the next few months.
Atlanta Gas Light (AGL) will replace old pipes underneath streets from May 1 through August 30, 2008. The AGL Pipe Replacement Program is part of a 15 year project to replace more than 2,300 miles of bare steel and cast-iron natural gas pipeline infrastructure in Georgia.
To insure the safety and reliability of Atlanta Gas Light’s natural gas pipeline system, older pipes are being replaced with state-of-the-art plastic and steel pipes.
Work will be done in phases. Expect temporary inconveniences (lane & sidewalk closures, congestion, etc.) on the following streets and plan accordingly:
Nelson Street
Spring Street
Forsyth Street
Pryor Street
Trinity Avenue
Garnett Street
Castleberry Street
Mitchell Street
Central Avenue
Brotherton Street
AGL will strive to minimize any impact in the downtown area during construction. Please call 404-584-3039 or email pipelinereplacements@aglresources.com for more information.
