First Taste of Johns Creek offers all-you-can-eat delights

After learning some valuable lessons from the Taste of Roswell High School, the organizers of the first Taste of Johns Creek are ready to welcome residents to sample from 40 restaurants.

For the price of one admission ticket, tasters will be able to sample as much as they want from Johns Creek restaurants serving everything from burgers, Asian and Italian flavors to ice cream.

According to Bethany Bohannan, Taste committee member, they met with Roswell High School’s organizers to find out what made their event so successful and to incorporate some of the same aspects. She said the Roswell team shared its secrets for success including reaching out to restaurants and showing them what a community event it would be and also one flat fee for the evening.

Ms. Bohannan said the event will show off all Johns Creek has to offer.

“We really wanted to embody the identity of Johns Creek,” she said. “The committee began working on it in March and then it took about two-and-a half-weeks to rally the restaurants.”

In addition to the delectable eats, the event will feature music from four local bands and a children’s entertainment area with face painting and balloon tying to make it a family event.

The Taste of Johns Creek has been organized exclusively by Chattahoochee High School parents and will take place on the school grounds. With proceeds benefiting the school’s football program, marching band and debate club, the students will also be pitching in.

“It’s really the perfect night for it because there are no football games,” said Ms. Bohannan. “The band members and football players who don’t have to perform that night will help out by picking up trash — we’re really showing our school spirit and with future re-districtings looming, showing what Chattahoochee has to offer.”

Pearl Lian Oriental Restaurant at 11600 Medlock Bridge Road has been part of the Johns Creek scene for nearly three years and will has some experience with the Taste requirements, said Manager Adelina Ilas. At the Taste of Duluth Pearl Lian served 800 attendees. But Ms. Ilas said 4,000 tickets have already been sold for the Johns Creek event.

Specializing in Thai, Chinese and sushi, Ms. Ilas said the restaurant will be dishing up a Thai selection, Spicy Basil Chicken, and a Chinese choice, Beef and Broccoli.

The event will be fun for the restaurants involved as well as attendees, she said.

“We love to see people’s reaction when they try our food and see if they’ve heard of us, but we also enjoy mingling with the other restaurants and trying their food,” said Ms. Ilas. “We’re not competing with, say, an Italian restaurant so for them to find out about us too is really just free advertising.”

The First Taste of Johns Creek will take place Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Chattahoochee High School, 5230 Taylor Road in Johns Creek.

Tickets cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.
