This weekend offers Georgia’s sales tax exemption on energy-efficient and water-saving gadgets.
And Saturday is the 2008 National Solar Tour.
The Haygood residence, 11175 Kimball Crest Drive in Alpharetta, will be open for the self-guided tour between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
EcoLumina, 821 North Island Terrace, in Sandy Springs, and the Hosken residence, 120 Churchill Drive in Sandy Springs, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. EcoLumina will show off its photovoltaics and its solar thermal water heater.
The Formby residence, 8340 Hewlett Road in Sandy Springs, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with 50-minute guided tours at 11:10 a.m., 12:10, 1:10, 2:10 and 3:10 p.m.

Energy Star items exempt from local and state sales tax from 12:01 a.m. Thursday through midnight Sunday, Oct. 5, are ceiling fans, air conditioners, doors, windows, skylights, clothes washers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, programmable thermostats and fluorescent light bulbs.
Water Sense items on the list include low-flow toilets, showerheads, faucets, faucet aerators and irrigation controllers.
Each item must cost less than $1,500 and be bought for home use.
State and federal tax credits are available for larger-cost items such as solar water heating.
October is National Energy Awareness Month, designed to promote smart energy choices and increase energy independence.
