Area residents and visitors of all ages are invited to North Point Mall to participate in a public safety expo on Saturday, October 23rd. The free event will take place from 12:00pm until 4:00 PM in the mall’s southwest parking lot, adjacent to the former Parisian store.
The event features numerous hands-on participation opportunities. Participants will be able to enter a fire safety house that is designed to teach about common household fire dangers and safely expose participants to a fire situation. The dangers of impaired driving will be discussed and participants will be able to wear specialized goggles which simulate impairment while driving. Drivers of all ages will learn about the hidden dangers of driving around tractor/trailer trucks by experiencing the Georgia Motor Trucking Association’s “NO-Zone Truck.”
Children are sure to enjoy the various public safety vehicles on display such as a fire ladder truck, police motorcycle, police patrol cruiser, and specialized equipment for DUI enforcement and the emergency services specialized unit. Demonstrations from the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety (ADPS) K-9 officers will also be featured.
During the event, citizens will be able to pickup pamphlets and educational materials on keeping their homes and loved-ones safe by stopping by the ADPS information booth located inside the Sears Store.
The event is sponsored by the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, North Point Mall, Sears and the Fear This 4 Life teen driving organization.
The Fear This Inc. teen driving program, a driving course tailored to 15 – 20 year-old drivers, is endorsed by Alpharetta Mayor Arthur Letchas and the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety. The program is a hand’s on course taught by certified police driving instructors. Participants will learn valuable life saving skills and techniques; the same skills taught to new recruited police officers. Course information will be available during this event.

Motorists should anticipate delays along a portion of Old Milton Parkway on Saturday, September 11th due to necessary maintenance activity. Contractors will be closing lanes along the roadway between North Point Parkway and Park Bridge Parkway in order to trim bushes in the median that are growing into the inside travel lanes.
Closure of the eastbound left lane on Old Milton Parkway will begin at 7:00 AM and remain in effect until approximately 1:00 PM. At that time the contractors will close the westbound left lane. It is anticipated that all lanes of Old Milton Parkway will be open for use by 6:00 PM on September 11.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid the effected area of Old Milton Parkway and should anticipate congestion and delays in the area.

The Alpharetta Dept. of Public Safety proudly announces the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the new Alpharetta 911-Command and Control Center, better known as the “C-3.” The “C-3” incorporates advanced communications including video monitoring of traffic flow at major intersections and GPS tracking of police and fire vehicles. The “C-3” will monitor the physical location of all police, fire and ambulance vehicles within Alpharetta by utilizing AVL (automatic vehicle locator) technology. By using AVL technology, dispatchers will send the nearest public safety unit instead of relying on units in assigned zones. The response times will be lessened thus providing much quicker aid to our citizens. Next to the “C-3” is the “EOC” Emergency Operations Center. This area will allow City officials and department heads to meet in one central location to plan, monitor and supervise emergency operations in the event of a major incident.
Alpharetta citizens, employees, guests and the media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, January 26th at 6:00pm at the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety located at 2565 Old Milton Parkway, Alpharetta, GA 30009.
Hot dogs and hamburgers with refreshments will be served hot off the grill!
Media guests are asked to RSVP by email to PIO George Gordon.
