Each Labor Day weekend, Atlanta becomes a mecca for all things science fiction, as Dragon*Con takes place downtown. Costumed super heroes, villains, space aliens, elves and other characters of the genre pack the streets and local hotels for exhibits, and art and film showings. In its 24th year, over 400 special guests are expected at the festivities, including actors, authors, illustrators and musicians.
Recognizing how popular Dragon*Con is among residents of the apartments in Marietta, September is designated as science fiction film month in the community’s 80-seat movie theater. Rockledge has also been a partner with the Dragon*Con Film Festival, showcasing films each month from local filmmakers. Last month, Pushin’ Up Daisies was screened. The zombie movie was a success among residents and the community who showed up to see the film as well as meet the film’s director. The next Dragon*Con film will be screened September 30, so look for information soon on which film will be shown.
