ROSWELL, Ga. – This year marks the 15th annual Fireworks Extravaganza held in Roswell. For many years, citizens from Roswell and beyond have gathered at Roswell High School to celebrate Independence Day in style. This year, however, calls for a change in venue.
Roswell High School will undergo renovation this summer. As a result, the July 4 Fireworks Extravaganza will take place at Sweet Apple Elementary School.
This relocation requires a good deal of preparation. More than 30,000 people attended last year's celebration, and the Roswell Recreation and Parks Department must find a way to accommodate them with this new location. The Recreation and Parks Department is in the process of notifying businesses and residents near Sweet Apple about the upcoming fireworks celebration.
The city is not planning to have any entertainment prior to the fireworks display, but is discussing the possibility of having food trucks at the event.
"Sweet Apple is a great location and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone come out for the fireworks this year," said Morgan Rodgers, assistant director of the Roswell Recreation and Parks Department.
The fireworks will begin around 9:30 p.m., or when darkness falls. All questions concerning the event can be addressed at 770-641-3705. Sweet Apple Elementary School is located at 12025 Etris Road, Roswell.

ALPHARETTA, Ga. – Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is coming to Alpharetta from its Sandy Springs location, where it has been for over 20 years.
Franchisees Jim Brooks, Phil Brooks, Mark Oswald and Nancy Oswald, the largest franchisees of the brand, purchased the property and building at 11655 Haynes Bridge Road, formerly Rainwater restaurant, which is a 2.3-acre site with roughly 18,000 square feet. Ruth's Chris plans to invest $1 million renovating the building and plans to open in the fall.
The building has private dining and banquet facilities including a brick wine room with climate-controlled storage.
"It has been a wonderful 20-plus years in Sandy Springs, but the Haynes Bridge site offers the ability to be in a distinct trade area from our other three Atlanta restaurants with the bonus of unprecedented event space," said co-owner Mark Oswald in an announcement.
"This was an opportunity that we simply had to seize," co-owner Jim Brooks said.

Kevin Roper, of Jonesboro, was charged with one count of death-by-auto and four counts of assault-by-auto in the crash that killed a Peekskill, N.Y. man and critically injured the actor and comedian.
A truck driver from Georgia was charged Saturday with causing a six-car crash that killed one and critically injured Saturday Night Live alum Tracy Morgan on the New Jersey Turnpike in Cranbury, authorities said.
Kevin Roper, 35, of Jonesboro, was charged with one count of death by auto and four counts of assault by auto after the tractor-trailer he was driving crashed into the van at 1 a.m. Saturday, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
A passenger in the van, James McNair, 62, of Peekskill, N.Y., was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:53 a.m. The four other passengers, including Morgan, were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Morgan and another passenger, a 36-year-old man from Shelton, Ct., were airlifted to the hospital, according to the prosecutor's office.
Morgan, 45, the Connecticut man, and another passenger, a 43-year-old man from Jersey City, remain in critical condition. Morgan is a former star of Saturday Night Live and the T.V. show "30 Rock."
The remaining passenger was treated at the hospital and was released.
Bail was set at $50,000 for the tractor-trailer driver, who is expected to surrender, according to the prosecutor's office.
A preliminary investigation determined that the tractor-trailer crashed into the van, a 2012 Mercedes Sprinter, as both vehicles traveled in the northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike. Four other vehicles were involved in the crash. None of the occupants of those vehicles was injured, according to the prosecutor's office.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
